Spring has finally arrived, which means I am back on the healthy diet train!
I’ve been on a number of diets over the years, and, really the only thing that I’ve found that works for me is to try to work in as many healthy, whole foods as possible, and stop eating foods that are prepackaged, frozen, fried, or ordered through one of the major fast food chains’ drive through. Increasing my activity level, and walking 30 minutes to 1 hour each and every day has also helped me to lose pounds and inches.
Another thing that helps me stick to my diet is eating two to three healthy snacks throughout the day. It helps me curb my appetite and resist the temptation to eat something unhealthy, like a whole bag of potato chips!
This morning’s snack is one large carrot, sliced, for 30 calories, a medium Gala apple, cored and sliced, for 80 calories and a hard-boiled egg at 78 calories.
I’ve also made up a single-serving of my favorite homemade veggie dip. The raw, local honey gives it a slightly sweet taste, and, it’s supposed to be a powerful boost to the immune system! There are also just 91 calories in it when you use the following recipe:
1 Tablespoon Kraft Mayo with Olive Oil – 50 calories
2 teaspoons 2% milk – 18 calories
1 teaspoon vinegar – 1 calorie
1 teaspoon raw, local honey – 22 calories
Mix the above 4 ingredients well. Sprinkle with black pepper and a salt substitute like Mrs. Dash to taste and stir again. Serve cold with your favorite fruits and vegetables.
Total calorie count for this snack, including the dip? Just 279 calories and I feel completely full! Take that, potato chip cravings; Ka-pow!
